infusorians

infusorians
a general term for a variety of small aquatic organisms cultured and fed to small fish fry in aquaria. Vegetable matter, such as a crushed lettuce leaf, is left in a jar of water in a sunny spot. Once this jar of water becomes cloudy with infusorians, small quantities can be added to the aquarium
